Two Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security mechanism that provides an extra layer of protection for your organization's vote. Implementing 2FA is a simple yet effective way to bolster your vote integrity by verifying the voter with a text message code or voter password only they would know.

Important Notes:

  • The option is only available on votes using High Integrity.

  • Authentication cannot be enabled for only some voters. All voters will be required to authenticate using the method selected.

  • Only one type of authentication can be selected; Phone Verification or Voter Password.

  • Phone Verification: The phone numbers need to be able to receive SMS text messages.

  • Voter Passwords: ElectionBuddy does not distribute the voters' passwords for you.

Setting up Two Factor Authentication

You can enable two-factor authentication from the Voters Page. (The option is only available on votes using High Integrity). Choose between "Phone Verification" or "Voter Password".

Phone Verification

  • Voters will need to have a mobile phone number included in the voter list.

  • When voters access their Ballot, they will select "Send Code" and the code will be sent to their phone number.

  • The code must be entered on the "Sign-in" page before the ballot can be accessed.

  • Verification codes do not expire. If a voter selects "Resend Code", they will be sent the same code again.

Phone Verification Important Notes

  • For voters that are geographically dispersed, use the default country code for the majority of your voters.

  • Ensure the voters' country codes are included in the voter list, for any voter not in the default country code.

Voter Password

  • Voters will need to have a Password included in the voter list.

  • ElectionBuddy does not distribute the voters' passwords for you.

  • The password should be something that would be known e.g. Member IDs

  • A custom label can be configured to provide a password hint.

  • Passwords cannot be updated once a vote is either Ready or Running

Voter Password Important Notes

  • Ensure the voters' passwords are included in the voter list, and that they are either aware of their password or can obtain it from the administrator upon proof of identity.
