ElectionBuddy lets you add candidate details to help voters make informed decisions. Common profile items include bios, statements, videos, qualifications, photos, and links to websites or online profiles.
Items to Note:
- When adding a file to a candidate profile, make sure that your JPEG, PNG, or PDF file is 5MB or smaller.
- When an image is uploaded, it can be resized using the slider bar within ElectionBuddy, as well its position can be moved to align within a viewability circle.
- Use a high-quality, square image (at least 500×500 px) to ensure it displays clearly. Smaller images may appear grainy, and square images center best in the circular frame.
- The amount of resizing and positioning does vary depending on the image, so in some instances, it may need to be resized outside of ElectionBuddy to provide the best outcome.
- Videos will need the be hosted online by a third party (e.g., YouTube/Vimeo), and can then be embedded into ElectionBuddy using the link from the third-party website.
Adding Candidate Information
Select the "Add profile" button next to the name of your candidate.
You can then attach a photo and/or a PDF, as well as text, links, or other details about the candidate. You can format the text using our rich text editor:
When a photo for your candidate is uploaded, you will have the option to adjust and resize the photo as needed.
On the live ballot, the candidate's photo appears as a thumbnail beside their name. Added text becomes an "Information" link, and uploaded PDFs are shown as "View PDF". This helps mobile voters access detailed info without being overwhelmed:
You do not need profiles and photos for all your candidates — if only a few want to give a profile and picture, that's okay!
When they click on the "Information" link, a small pop-up window will appear with the candidate's picture and profile:
Adding Candidate Video
You can embed a video into ElectionBuddy by using the shareable link from the third-party website. Look for a "share" or "embed" option on the video hosting platform to get the appropriate link.
Select the video embed icon in the "Edit Details" section to add your video.
Videos must be hosted online by a third-party platform. ElectionBuddy supports embedding from popular video hosting services like YouTube and Vimeo.
When embedding videos in ElectionBuddy, please ensure they are standard YouTube or Vimeo videos. YouTube Shorts, TikTok videos, and videos hosted on Google Drive are not supported for direct embedding in candidate profiles. To include these, you’ll need to upload them to a supported platform like YouTube (standard format) or Vimeo first.
Please note: Selecting links in a candidate's profile will open a new tab so your voters will not have to worry about being taken away from the ballot if they click the links.
