Surveys and polls are effective tools for collecting data and gathering information from a specific target audience. They allow you to obtain insights, opinions, preferences, and demographic data from individuals or a group of people in order to make an informed decision.
ElectionBuddy's Scored Voting system can be used for creating survey questions or polls where members provide feedback by scoring on a scale. Voters assign a score to each choice on the ballot by selecting the score from a drop-down list.
Setting up the Ballot Question
From Position or Question Type, choose "Surveys**"** then select Continue.
In Add Question Details, enter a "Question Title" and the "Choices". When using a scored question for a survey, each choice for the question becomes a question itself. Then select Continue.
Configure how many answers are required
Change the Voting System to "Scored" using the dropdown menu.
Provide a scale from which voters will choose their answer. The number of score choices voters will choose from can be customized. A score from negative to positive numbers is also accepted. e.g. -1 to 3.
ElectionBuddy requires voters to answer all question choices by default, but this can be changed to a specific number or a range of choices.
You can change the minimum choices to 0 which effectively allows voters to submit their ballot without needing to answer the survey questions. This removes the need for an abstain choice on your question but also comes with the risk of less voter engagement.
Define answers for each survey question
The scale can be edited by opening the Edit Scores link and changing the labels of the answers.
In Advanced Setting, enter the rating scale titles accordingly, example below. Selecting "NA - Not Applicable" means it will not be included in the final tally and does not impact the average score. You can change the order in which the scores are displayed by selecting Ascending or Descending in the dropdown.
Voter Experience
Voters select an answer for each survey question by selecting one from the dropdown next to each question.
Voters can apply the same answer for all survey questions by selecting an answer from the menu in the "Options" area of the question.
Scored Question Results
The Results are tallied for each question choice and the average scores are displayed.
The green information ( i ) can be selected to view the breakdown of each choice.
The "Graphed Results" tab shows a visual representation of the scores.
Downloading the results will provide the same vote breakdown as provided in the Vote-by-Vote tab.
How "NA - Not Applicable" Scores are handled.
The selection of "NA - Not Applicable" is not included in the score for each choice. For example, if two voters select a score of 2, and one voter selects "NA - Not Applicable" on the same choice, the total score would equal 4 (2 + 2), and the average score would equal 2. ElectionBuddy counts "NA - Not Applicable" as a score of 0 and does not include the selection in the average score.
